Table VR-8 shows the astonishing contrast between the newly-acquired spaces in the residential quarters of VR (Ville radieuse, or radiant City) and the atrocious narrowness of our present cities (here-Paris, New York, Buenos Aires).

This conquest of space is so enormous that the hurried observer cannot measure its reality. To grasp objectively and materially the new state of affairs the construction of a large, accurate scale model was undertaken in 1935, to permit the establishment of a series of photographic documents giving the impression of reality.

Constructed area: 12% of the total ground area. Available area: 88% of the total ground area.

The buildings rest on ground floor columns, thus putting 100% of the ground area at the disposition of pedestrians. A definite separation of automobile from pedestrian. Establishment of new "dwelling unities".
