On the Punjab plain in northern India, facing the Himalayas, Le Corbusier realised the dream of many architects: to build a city. When he landed in the region in the 1950s, the architect was given the task of single-handedly building a city of 500,000 people. Touched by the simplicity of the lifestyles of its future inhabitants and by the grace of the surrounding nature, this champion of modernism saw his certainties waver.
