Diane Dal-Pra à la Maison La Roche

Diane Dal-Pra à la Maison La Roche

Exhibition — June 3-27 — Maison La Roche

The Fondation Le Corbusier, in collaboration with the MassimodeCarlo gallery, presents the Diane Dal-Pra exhibition at Maison La Roche.

Diane Dal-Pra was born in 1991 in Périgueux; she lives and works in Paris.

Diane Dal-Pra’s works explore the rituals we associate with and perpetuate through certain objects we possess throughout our lives. The artist is superstitious by nature; she questions the extent to which our material possessions influence our inner balance, and how much they ultimately shape our identities. In her work, she reveals the duality of these possessions, which can, in some ways, overwhelm us, whilst also defining us and our habits.

Dal-Pra works primarily on large canvases where her sculptural figures, constructed from a collection of objects and monumental anthropomorphic forms, take on a monolithic stature. The choice of oil paint lends these amalgamated forms an enhanced presence; thanks to its intrinsic qualities, it gives them depth and volume. The palette of pale, nuanced colours, her penchant for playing with the translucency of textiles, combined with a smooth, invisible brushstroke and detailed depictions of textures, mitigate the heaviness of the forms, allowing the compositions to achieve perfect balance and harmony. The canvases, resolutely modern in their aesthetic and choice of subjects, attain absolute timelessness. The figures are elevated to the status of classical statues, and the artist’s preferred medium, oil painting—employed with remarkable technical precision—establishes a direct link between the history of this medium and the Renaissance painters whose major influence Dal-Pra acknowledges. Her works, of great finesse and technical richness, invite us, through their juxtapositions, to forge our own interpretation of the narratives they contain.
